You should know by now that when Donald Trump says he is going to make something great again, he is going to totally destroy it! Whomever he hires to help make it happen is going to be a human wrecking ball and chaos agent.
If there was any doubt about the merit and qualifications of U.S. Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon, her recent testimony before congress removes all doubt (again). She flubbed a simple math calculation: multiplication by ten. She wasn't alone, as her allied senator, John Kennedy (R-La), did the same thing. Perhaps they were trying to lie about government spending, as Republicans do, thinking their words would make great soundbites and no one would know or care about the truth. Perhaps they are dumbasses who cannot or do not care to get their numbers right.
The event happened at a hearing, during a discussion on funding for a program called TRIO, which helps low income students afford higher education. Kennedy asked McMahon about $1.58 billion annual spending, multiplying the number by ten. Kennedy calculated the number to be over a 1.5 TRILLION dollars, a error of 100x. The true number is 1.5 billion dollars. McMahon reaffirmed the number, then defended it when challenged by Senator Jack Reed (D-R.I.)
That is a glaring math fuckup. Imagine being in a restaurant, or visiting a doctor, and being quoted a bill in error by 100x! To be clear, it was not just McMahon who mangled the math, but ivy league educated Senator Kennedy.
The hearing was really a shitshow. McMahon was asked about whether teaching about the Holocaust, and she responded with words of holocaust denial. She was also asked about whether teaching about the 2020 election, Tulsa Race Massacre, or about Ruby Bridges, would violate Trump's anti-diversity policies. Every answer was either a dodge or far-right talking point.
Linda McMahon was appointed by Donald Trump to destroy, not improve, education in America. She was appointed as an act of malice and disrespect of the American people.
